This page offers you access to five video trips that show you something of what Nordelph looks like. Although there are technologies available for making video 'broadcasts' over the Internet, for a variety of reasons what we offer here are downloadable files that you can play on your computer.
Be warned! These are large files, and we strongly advise against accessing them unless you have a Broadband connection.
The available videos take you through the village in a series of four runs between the labelled points on the map. We recognise that (although the routes cover everything labelled 'Nordelph' on the road signs) this excludes many residents further out along Silt Road, Birchfield Road and the Downham Road. We feel that we have to keep the file sizes small, and the longer the run, the bigger the download.
Select from the list below: each run is available in two video formats, Quicktime and Windows Media. Generally, that's for Apple and Windows users respectively. Click on the link, and what happens rather depends on how your system is set up! A new window will open (close it to return to the website) and the player software may open automatically, download the file and begin to play it. If you wish to keep it, you may be able to save it from the player. Alternatively, you may be prompted to either 'save to disk' or 'open' the video. We suggest saving it to disk and playing later. In Windows, you can also right-click on the link, and select 'save target as' to download the file. There may well be a delay while the file downloads, but both the versions should start to play back before they're completely downloaded. You should be aware that as part of the download process, your Internet browser will generate a large temporary file and you may like to delete this file to regain the space: in Internet Explorer, you'll find the command under Tools | Internet Options. In Firefox, clearing the 'cache' of temporary files is one of the options set under 'Clear Private Data' and we suggest that you read the Help file before using Tools | Options | Privacy.

We've added a new feature to this page. You can now download our 'video directions'. We've recorded the drive from the A1 at Huntingdon to Nordelph, via Chatteris and the 16-foot drain. We've speeded it up (it lasts 4'30") and added useful captions. Quality isn't good -- we've compressed it as much as possible -- but you may find it useful: and certainly fun, flying through the Fens at speeds up to 700 mph! But be warned -- this was recorded in 2005, and we're amazed at how much has changed: at least one new roundabout, and a new 'Welcome to Norfolk' sign.
