Nordelph Traders: Organic Fruit & Vegetables

Ian Massingham, who lives in Salter's Lode, has been a feature of the Downham market for many years. Originally, his organic fruit and vegetables were sold from the covered entry to the Crown Hotel; when he moved on, it was to the town square opposite Johnson's the cleaners. And now Ian has taken the step into permanent premises, with extended opening hours to match.

The new premises, imaginatively known as 'The Vegetable Shop' (it has a new sign, mounted after our photograph was taken in September) are in High Street, opposite Fellaz the hairdressers' and almost next door to 'The Hop and Hog' another local enterprise that specialises in good quality, local, and in Ian's case organic foods.

 

With the move to a 'real' shop, your chance of catching Ian has increased dramatically; instead of needing to organise your life around his one appearance at the Friday market, the new shop is open rather more frequently:

Tuesdays 8.30 -- 2.00 and 5.00 -- 7.00
Fridays 8.30 -- 6.00
Saturdays 8.30 -- 2.00

.Ian also offers a fruit and vegetable box delivery service, and will deliver to Nordelph., direct to your door on Thursday or Friday evenings -- or if you are a commuter, you may prefer to collect from the cafe at Downham Station. All produce is grown organically. Boxes of fruit, vegetables, or a mixture are available from £7.50.
