Neatmoor, Nordelph

The parishioners of Nordeliph should not get too excited about the photograph below. It might look like Norfolk County Council has started to provide footpaths which are urgently needed within our village - (This has been clearly indicated in Nordeiph Safety Report) - NOT SO.

The following photographs will make clear how vulnerable pedestrians of Nordelph really are from the enormous amount of through traffic, a high proportion of which are articulated vehicles, particularly during the sugar-beet season.

I feel sure we all would have been aware of KNOWLES TRANSPORT, the red articulated lorries passing through our village - let's face it, there are enough of them hurrying along to the sugar-beet factory trying to get their quota in before the queues at this factory become agonizingly long. Now you can view one from a slightly different angle:

This road accident happened around 0600 hrs at Neatmoor, Nordeiph on December 3rd 2006 - luckily, not too much traffic or pedestrians are about at this time on a Saturday morning.

BUT HAD IT HAPPENED ON A SCHOOL DAY OR WHEN THE ELDERLY GO SHOPPING ... A FEW MORE FEET BEFORE COMING TO REST AND THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SERIOUS - THE CONCRETE SLAB WHERE THE MAN IS STANDING IS WHERE THE SCHOOL BUS STOPS ANDTHE PASSENGERS CATCH THE BUS TO DOWNHAM MARKET.

At the scene of this accident the police were asked what the maximum speed limit a lorry of this size along Silt Road was .. The answer. .40 mph. Now I am not saying the Polish driver was speeding, even although this was put forward as a possible cause by the professionals, however, speed is obviously the main contributing factor in many of the accidents along Silt Road.

Interestingly. I understand that this particular vehicle had the recovery team out in November of this year - this of course could just be coincidental, perhaps!
