Nordelph in pictures: Village Picnic, August 2010

Pimms in a wheelbarrow Pimms

Nordelph celebrated 7th August 2010 with a picnic on the recently-donated land behind the Village Hall. Frustratingly, the afternoon was cloudy with occasional sppots of rain -- a weather report all the more galling because the following day was perfect picnic weather! Nonetheless, some two dozen or more souls turned up with food and drink to share. And possibly, as the photographs above document, this is the first time that Pimms has been mixed in a wheelbarrow!

Most people were impressed by the inventive use of a hollowed-out loaf as a serving dish for sausages, but this admiration was swamped by outright adoration when the contents were tasted.

As well as good food, good drink and good company, there were some sporadic attempts to be sporty, with most of the picnickers settling for a game of boule.

It might have all looked ad-hoc and spontaneous, but there was quite a bit of hard work behind the scenes -- gazebo, bunting, publicity and the like. Many thanks to all who helped.

Aside from its use as the site of the barbecue at the last raft race, this is the first significant use of the land -- let's hope there are many more!
