Visitors from Civray

At the beginning of August 2005, Nordelph hosted a barbecue for some of the twin-town party from Civray. This town, some 35 miles from Poitiers, lies just off the main road to Bordeaux and has been successfully twinned with Downham Market for many years now.

The following account is of the visit that some of the party paid to Nordelph.

There were 49 visitors in total that joined us from Civray; they arrived by coach on Sunday 31st July at 18.00 at the Town Hall car park in Downham Market after a 14 hour journey from Civray across the channel to Norfolk.

They had a very busy schedule visiting Oxburgh Hall, Denver Windmill, a day on the beach in Hunstanton, hog roast near the rare breed centre in Stow Bardolph, a day in Bury St Edmonds and a trip to Nottingham to see Robin Hood etc.

The visit to Nordelph was their last day and evening, to celebrate our time together and went really well. Plenty of fine wine, food and exchanges of languages, a wonderful time had by all.

The visitors were Marie-Jo and daughter Sophie aged 14 years and very fashionable. Marie Jo
lives just outside Civray and is a Secretary. Laurence and daughter Celine aged 11 were great fun, with no initial understanding of English; we got by fine. Laurence is a farmer's wife and works on their own farm with mainly cattle. There was a couple at the BBQ who have a house in Civray but I believe live in Paris; they were both lovely and very hospitable.

Great day all round and made special by Nordelph neighbours visiting and trying out their French. Thank you also for joining us in our BBQ day. Big ' thank you' to Doug for all his cooking and serving wine etc.
