FEN ALES

As part of our self-imposed task of chronicling and cataloguing just what it is that makes life in the Fens so richly rewarding, we turn to beer -- and doubtless, in time, other drinks such as cider, perry and mead.

Our title is perhaps initially misleading -- although there are many local independent brewers, a mere handful, all in Cambridgeshire, could be deemed to be in the Fens. So our scope is not beers that are brewed in the Fens, but those that are widely available here. We did intend to launch this feature with a survey of Elgood's of Wisbech, which does meet the stricter criterion, but at the time of this update, they haven't replied to our requests.

From this page, which will grow slowly over time, you can access pages describing the range of beers, the history of brewing and some other notes for significant local breweries -- as well as links to their own websites.
