Nordelph in pictures: 2009 New Year's Eve

Party going

It's been a long time since there was a village New Year party, and the relatively recent gifting of the Village Hall to the community meant that there was an even stronger reason for celebration.

The party was 'fancy dress if you dare' and the majority of the participants accepted the challenge and dressed up as normal sane human beings. Sadly, a number of party-poopers, among them Ozzy Osborne, Batwoman, Jack Sparrow, Lawrence of Arabia and Father Ted, declined to play ball and came along as themselves.

Music (for want of a better word) was supplied by Sonic Sounds Disco, and it seemed that everyone had a good time! Refreshments included a specially commissioned Pled Horn Ale (if this makes no sense to you, see our report of the BBC Radio Norfolk Treasure Quest programme, which we had reported on shortly before this party). This was provided by Bull Box Brewery, a local micro-brewery that's described in our 'Fen Drink' section. As can be seen in the photograph on the right, the effect of this 5.2%ABV brew (slightly red, being a Christmas ale, and not dissimilar to the brewery's popular 'Ho Bloody Ho!') was to make drinkers legless!

A lot of hard work went into the organisation of all of this (it would be invidious to single anyone out, because that way we'd be bound to unintentionally ignore someone). Decorations were decorated, music was booked, refreshments organised, publicity performed -- and everything cleared up afterwards!
