Nordelph in pictures: 2006 Raft Race -- Adult Race

The Adult Race -- enlivened by the presence of two costumed pirates (who went on to win in style in their craft Cool Runnings) -- began immediately after the Youth Race. There were five starters, and even before the official 'off', the spectators were engaged in the traditional Fenland rafting pursuit of flour bombing.

This was a hard fought race where almost all participants showed a nifty turn of speed, and where the spectators were hard pressed to see both start and finish without an unseemly run along the banks.

Nevertheless, the Pirates, Alan Savin and Pete O'Sullivan, forged ahead and crossed the finishing line opposite the Village Hall with enough of a lead to clamber out and rain flour and water on the second crew as they approached the finish.

Our third finisher revealed suspect (and unsuspected) tendencies when, after crossing the line, he unveiled his lingerie, and promptly fell into the water. And we round off our pictures with the fourth and last finishers.

As well as the leasers, also participating were Barry Carter, Rushtie, Pete, Darren and Kevin Barrett.
