Full details of the
NORDELPH COMMUNITY WEBSITE: Late July 2010
This is one of our 'quick-and-easy' updates -- just this single new page with important village news, sitting in front of the July website. Click here to get to the previous version.
And remember -- if you can't see the pictorial header above, and the index to the left, you're only viewing one of the frames that make up the page; www.nordelph.org will show you the page as it's meant to be!
Following the shooting incident in Nordelph last month the victims, David and Sue Venn, have asked us to publish the following:
"Following our recent altercation with a neighbour, Sue and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the residents of Nordelph who have been kind enough to send gifts, cards and flowers, write letters and telephone us.
There are too many to name individually and we are astounded by the sheer volume of good wishes which have come our way and, to be honest, feel humbled that we had so many more friends than we ever knew we had.
The injuries we sustained are healing. We hope to take a more active part in village life in the very near future.
Thank you all so very much.
David & Susan Venn"
Pick a poster!
Those of you who live in Nordelph will know that there are plans for a Village Picnic on Saturday August 7th -- further members of the Parish Council will be sacrificed to appease the weather gods. There are posters around the village advertising the event and telling you how to get hold of more details, but as with all such events the more publicity the better! We're offering you a choice of posters to download and print off. The content is the same, it's just that the one on the right uses a genuine Nordelph sky (reduce your carbon footprint and cloud miles by shopping for your skies locally!). Download either by clicking on the image above, or get both together.
The picnic should be a really special event -- not least because it's the only village event in living memory where no one has suggested fancy dress (or did we miss that bit?). Seriously, come along, share, and have fun.
Now that the picnic has taken place, you can access our page of photographs by clicking here.
Raft race 2010
And while we're on about fancy dress, another reminder that the truly tradtional Nordelph event, the Raft Race, will take place on August 22nd. Get a full sized copy of the poster to display

The Nordelph Project
The following has also appeared in the Parish Magazine.
It has been with great sadness that the villagers of Nordelph have witnessed the demolition of Holy Trinity Church; the most prominent landmark in the village.
However, we were heartened by an idea suggested by a member of the Arts and Crafts Club. By focusing on the positive, she suggested a community project to make a wall-hanging to commemorate the church. Also to make an altar cloth bearing the quotation: "This do in remembrance of me", as these words were worked into the brickwork on the east wall of the church.
This suggestion set our minds buzzing, such that we have already designed a colourful wall-hanging based on a stained-glass window. This would be worked in a combination of quilting and applique, whilst the altar cloth would involve embroidery.
As yet, the project is at a very early stage, but with time, enthusiasm, skill and of course, funding, we hope to see it to completion. We welcome your suggestions and, if you feel that you could help in any way, we would be delighted to hear from you on: 01366 324129.
Jean Manning.
And finally ...
The image in our last update of a snake seen in High Street was included because we felt that this was a relatively rare occurrence. It seems not -- one villager wrote in to say "the snake you saw on the High Street may be the same one who sometimes snoozes on our pond" and attached the following photograph.
Is this going to develop the same way as our earlier mentions of bridges and blacksmiths?
