Welcome to Broadband!

You now live in a community that has been upgraded to enjoy Broadband communications. The work necessary was carried out during the week of September 27th, but the exchange wasn't activated until October 12th -- the date promised in our banner headline. You can read all about it, and see the pictures of the process actually happening, in our Broadband comes to Nordelph feature in the Nordelph Future section.

Missing village sign

This is absolutely the appropriate moment to recognise the ceaseless efforts made to get this to come about made by Des Andrew. He has pressured bodies as diverse as the East of England Development Agency, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, and Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Council. When you upgrade to Broadband (and there are some hints and tips in the link above), spare a moment for the man who made it happen.

In our last update, we reported that the village sign had been removed for refurbishment, and we amended our banner headline to reflect the situation.

With impeccable timing, the sign was returned before most people read the website report that it had gone!

Meanwhile, it's business as usual in our restored heading.

Which vegetable?

Other new items this month include another contribution from our Fruit and Vegetable correspondent. This one's a bit of a puzzle: do you recognise the vegetable illustrated alongside? And perhaps more importantly, what do you call it? We've found four distinct names, and at least three variations of spelling.

All will be revealed when you follow the link above, or click on the photograph.

There's also the latest news about the Digital Switchover -- the government has recently announced the target dates for this region for switching off the analogue signals that most of us currently use for television reception. Get the details, and what you will and won't have to do in our Nordelph Future section, by clicking on the link above.

As winter nears, we can anticipate enjoying the annual migration of swans to the Welney Wetlands reserve; Full details of the scheduled feeds are available through this link or via the Leisure section in the index.

Once again the Nordelph Arts and Crafts Club held a tea-party on Wednesday 5th Oct. in the Village Hall for the Macmillan Cancer Relief Charity. A very pleasant time was spent by everyone there and, as a result of their generosity, £125 was raised towards the charity's annual appeal; an excellent sum, bearing in mind the size of our village. Many thanks to all those who supported the tea-party with their time, efforts and contributions. Meanwhile, there some dates for your diary, when we list upcoming meetings of the club.

As usual, we've updated the Church Services for October into November. And finally, remember that there's a Parish Council meeting on Wednesday October 19th at 7.30pm.
